WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL?

A charter school is a public school, open to all students, offering creative instructional techniques to deliver the curriculum.  In Wisconsin, there are currently 239 charter schools in operation.

HOW DOES THE LOTTERY WORK AND WHY?

State law requires charter schools that receive applications beyond the enrollment cap to hold a lottery per grade level. Each year the Chain Exploration Center accepts 18 students per grade level in grades 4K-3 and 20 students per grade level in grades 4-8. There is one lottery that is held after the registration window closes. If a lottery is necessary, it will be a public event open to applicants and families.

HOW AND WHERE DO I ENROLL?

Application periods are:

Currently enrolled School District of Waupaca students -- The first Monday in February - March 15th

Applications can be found online and at the Chain Exploration Center Front Office.  If more students apply than spots available per grade level, a lottery will be held.
